Hidden Pathways is an original piano piece by Elena Fortin. The style is flowing, gentle, peaceful, soothing, and uplifting.
Did you ever go wandering through the woods and find some unknown pathway that no one else has traveled before? And did you follow it and find some enchanted little destination that you wish you could re-visit again and again? While I was writing, I had that image in my mind–a place of sunlight, quiet, and peace.
About the arrangement
The piece is written in D-flat major–a key signature with 5 flats. It’s a pretty key–and not as hard to play as you might think. When your flats or sharps reach a certain number, it becomes easier to think of what notes are NOT black keys! So in this case, any “C’s” and “F’s” (“DO”s and “FA”s for solfège learners) are the only white notes.
The flat keys “fit” the hands really well–you play mostly on the black keys for the piece. “Hidden Pathways” could probably be classified as “New Age” or “Neo-Classical” in sound. It’s just a pretty instrumental that explores and wanders–just like that walk in the woods!
